Vance was also inducted into the National Communications Honor Society, was an active member of the Speech Communication Association, student managed the Tate Student Center facility set-up, played intramural basketball and coached youth basketball. After college, Vance worked in the private sector as first a restaurant bar manager and then a parking and transportation regional manager, planner and staff writer. Vance became a professional writer (author-journalist-poet-blogger) in 2005 as he embarked upon his first writing project, Golden State Genius (full-length memoir and California travel narrative). Vance’s first public spoken word performance was at Walker’s bar and coffeehouse on College Avenue in Athens, GA in 2007, where he read from his first chapbook, Thank God for Perception. At that point, Vance had written thousands of poems on stacks of loose paper and in notebooks, which he stores in his poetry box in Atlanta. Vance recently completed ATL Fire II: 76 American Poems.  To book Vance to host an event or feature perform poetry, email the poet directly: hanvance@yahoo.com
